The People Behind the Colour
Meet the artists behind every result.
Our colourists and stylists are the heart of Characters Hair - a close-knit team who've spent years perfecting their craft, and who treat every client like family.
Salon Manager
Maddie
Maddie runs the salon - the calm at the centre of a busy floor. She's the one who makes sure your appointment has the right stylist and enough time in the chair, remembers what you asked for last visit, and quietly keeps the whole day running so nobody feels rushed.
“Book your next appointment before you leave - the late-night Thursday slots and Saturdays go first.”
Executive Stylist
George
George has spent nearly four decades behind the chair, and it shows in the cut. He specialises in haircutting and in every kind of blow-dry - from a sleek, glassy finish to soft body and movement - reading how your hair falls and shaping it so it sits right long after you leave the salon.
“A blow-dry lasts longer when the cut supports it - tell your stylist how you style at home and the shape can be cut to work with it.”
Senior Stylist
Iwane
Trained in Japanese cutting techniques, Iwane works to a discipline built on structure and balance - dry-cutting into the shape, following the hair's own weight and growth so the finish holds as it grows out. Across almost forty years, that craft has been paired with the full spectrum of colour work, from tonal refreshes to full transformations, in a single considered appointment.
“A great haircut works with your hair, not against it - the right shape means less styling at home.”
Head Colourist
Emily
Emily leads colour at Characters Hair - hand-painted balayage, blonde transformations, precise toning and colour correction - and she's also our hair extensions specialist. That combination is rare and it shows: she colour-matches tape and hand-tied wefts by eye, so extensions blend into your own colour and stay blended as it grows.
“If you wear extensions, book your colour and your move-up together - matching the two in one visit is what keeps the join invisible.”
Senior Stylist
Kay
Kay covers cutting and blow-drying across every hair type and length, and brings the same versatility to colour work. She's also one of the team's smoothing specialists, taking care of nanoplasty and keratin treatments for clients who want frizz calmed and styling time cut down at home.
“If your mornings are spent fighting frizz, ask about a smoothing treatment - it does more for your day-to-day than any product will.”
Emerging Stylist
Ania
Ania is at the start of her career in hairdressing, and it's a genuine pleasure to watch. She trains alongside the whole team - washing, colour prep, blow-drying and finishing - soaking up technique from every chair on the floor, and she brings real warmth to every client she looks after. She's also the salon's scalp-scan specialist: a quick scan shows you what's actually going on at the root - dryness, oil, sensitivity, density - and she'll talk you through which products will genuinely help.
“Healthy hair starts at the scalp - ask for a scan if your hair feels flat, oily or itchy and you're not sure why.”
